Tijuana week ahead, Oct. 19–25: book fair, Tecate Península, free Amigos Invisibles and a chance of rain

After a hot, windy end to last week, Tijuana heads into one of its busiest stretches of the fall: the book fair opens at Parque Morelos, Friday is packed with concerts, and Saturday brings both Tecate Península and a free street concert downtown. Here’s the week day by day, with links to our listings. Times and prices are as published by organizers and ticket sites, so confirm before you go.

Monday, Oct. 19: two border changes

  • Otay truck bypass. Empty cargo trucks can start using a new 5.8-km route between Otay I and Otay II, and loaded trucks from Oct. 30. Our story has the route and hours.
  • No drones near the line. The FAA’s formal notices banning unauthorized drone flights within a nautical mile north of the border take effect at 5 p.m., according to DroneXL, though the FAA called the restriction effective last Friday. Details in our drone story.

The weather: cooler, with rain chances midweek

The Meteored forecast that San Diego Red published on Friday had temperatures easing from Sunday and an 80% chance of rain on Wednesday and Thursday, with highs around 21 to 22 °C. NBC 7 San Diego’s forecast also pointed to a West Coast storm cooling the region by midweek. Forecasts change, so keep our alert kit handy, and if it does rain, our rainy-day plans are ready.
