Estadio Caliente is where Club Tijuana, the Xolos, play Liga MX, and on non-match weekends its esplanade turns into the city’s festival ground. It sits inside the Hipódromo Agua Caliente complex on Boulevard Agua Caliente, between Zona Río and the eastern neighborhoods, with the racetrack and casino next door. For a visitor it is the easiest big-event venue in Tijuana to reach, and a Xolos home game is one of the better ways to see the city enjoying itself.
What’s there
The stadium opened on November 11, 2007, with a match against Pumas Morelos, built by Grupo Caliente owner Jorge Hank Rhon to bring professional soccer to the city; the club itself had been founded only that January. It started as a single-tier bowl of about 13,000 and has been expanded in phases since 2009: a corporate tower in one corner, a taller north end, new west and east stands and a layer of suites, bringing capacity to 27,333 with a long-term plan for 33,333. The main gate is hard to miss: a giant Xoloitzcuintle dog’s head frames the entrance. The name is a sponsorship; Caliente is one of Mexico’s biggest bookmakers, and the group owns both the club and the ground.
What to expect
Match days: Xolos play home games across the Apertura (July to December) and Clausura (January to May) tournaments, mostly in the evening. The Apertura 2026 home opener was against Tigres on July 16, with Cruz Azul and Pumas also visiting in the fall. Games draw families, the barras behind the goals and a steady stream of San Diego fans. Concerts: the Explanada del Estadio Caliente is a separate outdoor stage on the grounds, and its recent bookings show the range: Junior H in November 2025, El Malilla in May 2026, Álvaro Díaz in September, the Tecate Península festival on October 24, 2026 (Interpol, Caifanes, Julieta Venegas, Cuco, Enjambre, Siddhartha, Panteón Rococó and Los Auténticos Decadentes) and Beéle on November 16.
Prices and entry
Match tickets are sold through the club’s official channels and vary by section and opponent; concert and festival tickets go through each promoter’s ticketing platform. Expect bag checks at the gates and the usual stadium rules on bottles and large items.
Getting there
Address: Blvd. Agua Caliente 12027, Colonia Hipódromo. It is a short taxi or ride-hail from Zona Río or Avenida Revolución, and about 15 minutes from the San Ysidro crossing outside match traffic. The stadium has its own lot, resurfaced with stone a few years ago, but the boulevard backs up before kickoff and after festivals, so give yourself extra time or get dropped at a nearby corner. The Tijuana Marriott is close enough that guests walk over, which makes it the obvious hotel for a game-and-sleep trip.
Good to know
- The stands are open to the sky and the evening breeze reaches this far inland, so bring a layer.
- Xolos’ league title so far is the Apertura 2012, which the city still talks about; the dog mascot and the name come from the hairless Xoloitzcuintle.
- The Agua Caliente complex around the stadium includes the racetrack grounds and casino; for dinner before or after, Zona Río and the boulevard’s own restaurants are a short ride away.
