Touring bands in a mid-size room

Black Box is the concert venue on Avenida Revolución that brings touring bands to downtown Tijuana: a second-floor room between Calle Sexta and Séptima with a capacity in the hundreds, a stage, a bar and a calendar that runs from Spanish indie to ska, metal and electronic acts. It is where you go for a show rather than a club night, though on the right bill the floor turns into one.

The vibe

The room is upstairs at Revolución 1217, above the street noise, and it feels like a proper venue: a wide floor facing the stage, a bar with frozen drinks and burgers, and a crowd that comes for the band. Promoters describe it as the city’s showcase for national and international acts in an intimate setting, and that balance is right; big enough for a sold-out night by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark or Erasure, which both played here, small enough that you are close to the stage anywhere in the room. Ticketing sites list the capacity at 600, and it has been booking touring acts for well over a decade. The crowd depends entirely on who is playing.

What to expect

The fall 2026 calendar is typical of the mix. September had the ska-punk band Buck-O-Nine, the rock band Comisario Pantera and the singer Arath Herce; October brings the singer Adanowsky and the Chilean artist Akriila; November has Jacinto and Wuicho Kun; December opens with the Norwegian indie band Kakkmaddafakka and the Spanish songwriter Nacho Vegas, and 2027 already lists the French band Alcest and Pol Granch. Doors are usually 8 p.m. and shows start an hour or so later. In July 2026 the former members of MƤgo de Oz reunited here. Expect a standing floor and, depending on the act, a mosh pit or a sing-along.

Prices and entry

Every show is ticketed separately, with prices set by the promoter; tickets are sold through the venue’s HazTJ listings and ticketing partners, and at the door when available. Age limits vary by event, so check the listing before you buy. The bar does beer, cocktails and frozen drinks, and there are burgers if you arrive hungry.

Getting there

Revolución 1217 is on the stretch of the avenue between Calle Sexta and Calle Séptima, up a stairway to the second level. From the San Ysidro pedestrian crossing it is a 20-minute walk straight down Revolución; from Zona Río, a ten-minute ride. After the show, the Calle Sexta bars are literally around the corner, and taxis line the avenue.

Good to know

  • Follow @blackboxtj on Instagram or check HazTJ for the current calendar; the venue’s own website is only a “coming soon” page.
  • Doors at 8 p.m. is the norm; headliners go on later, so eat first on Sexta.
  • Phone: (664) 638-7777 for group questions.
  • Moustache Bar (Madero 1250) and La Mezcalera (Sexta 8267) are the natural before-and-after stops.
