The Xolos finally got their win, and a big one. Tijuana beat Santos Laguna 4-1 on Sunday night at Estadio Caliente in matchday 14 of the Apertura 2026, ending the visitors’ six-game winning streak, a run Vanguardia called historic for the club, according to Noroeste, El Tiempo and Vanguardia. For the Xolos, it ends a six-game league run without a win that included the 0-0 draw with Puebla that drew boos at home (our story) and last Wednesday’s 2-2 at Toluca (our story).
How the goals came
Francisco González opened the scoring in the 13th minute off a pass from Adonis Preciado, and Ignacio “Nacho” Rivero made it 2-0 five minutes later, pouncing on a rebound after a Jackson Porozo attempt, according to Noroeste, El Tiempo and Vanguardia; Récord timed both goals a minute earlier. Esteban Lozano pulled one back for Santos in the 66th minute, but Rivero answered three minutes later with a direct free kick, and Preciado finished a counterattack set up by Alan Vega in the 72nd to seal it.
Gilberto Mora didn’t play, and Sergio Almaguer led the team from the bench in place of the suspended Sebastián “Loco” Abreu, Récord reported.
Where it leaves them
The win takes the Xolos to 20 points, one more than Santos, according to Vanguardia, and Récord reported that it puts them in the Liguilla zone with three regular-season matchdays left. They also still have a game in hand to play this week.
