Xolos rally for a 2-2 draw at Toluca; Santos visit Sunday, then América on Wednesday

Xolos left Toluca with a point on Wednesday night. Elías Manoel put Tijuana ahead before halftime at the Estadio Nemesio Diez, set up by Yael Padilla; Toluca turned it around in the second half with goals from Federico Viñas and Helinho about four minutes apart, and Padilla tied it 2-2 with roughly a quarter of an hour left, according to Fox Sports México and TUDN.

Goalkeeper Toño Rodríguez kept the draw alive late, including a double save in stoppage time, Fox Sports México reported. Xolos protested Toluca’s second goal, claiming a foul and an offside, but the referee let it stand and VAR did not step in. Gilberto Mora was left out of the squad, Fox Sports México noted.

The result left Xolos on 17 points, one place off the Liguilla spots when the match ended, TUDN reported. It also stretches their league run without a win to six games, after the 0-0 draw with Puebla that was the fifth (our story).

Two games in four days

  • Sunday, Oct. 25: Xolos vs. Santos at Estadio Caliente. Kickoff is at 9 p.m. Central Mexico time, which is 8 p.m. in Tijuana, according to NNC, which lists the broadcast on FOX and FOX One and notes that the schedule is subject to confirmation. Our event page has the details.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 28: América vs. Xolos at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City. It’s the matchday 7 game that was moved from Sept. 5 because of América’s Leagues Cup run. TV Azteca Baja California reported an 8 p.m. kickoff, Baja California time, and Fox Sports’ U.S. match page lists Univision (UNIV) as the broadcaster. For América, it’s the third of four games in 11 days, Fox Sports México pointed out.

If you’re going Sunday

Sunday’s match comes a day after Tecate Península takes over the stadium’s esplanade. For a night game, plan your ride home ahead of time and check the border waits before you leave the stadium; getting-there tips are on our Estadio Caliente profile, and the rest of the weekend is on the calendar.
