Tijuana Rock Bar is exactly what the name says: a live-music bar devoted to rock, at the corner of Calle Sexta (Flores Magón 8209) and Avenida Revolución, the corner where downtown’s bar crawl is densest. Its own listing says it revives the legacy of Mike’s A Go Go, the Revolución bar of decades past that locals credit with early shows by names like Santana and Jim Morrison. Whatever you make of the legend, the current room is a working venue: listings show shows every few weeks through 2025 and 2026, from thrash and metal bills to soul-rock and tribute nights. It is for people who want a band and a beer rather than a DJ and a bottle.
The vibe
A bar with a stage, not a concert hall. On show nights the room fills with each band’s own crowd, and sets run late: a 2025 listing shows a headliner on at 11:20 p.m. On nights without a show it is a rock bar with rock on the speakers and the noise of the Sexta coming through the door. Dress is whatever you are wearing.
What to expect
Bills in 2026 have ranged from The Soul Family Band and King Buitre to Entre Desiertos, Batopilas and James Golan, Liquid FilM, and the metal pairing of Ominess and In Shame; December 2025 brought bassist Marco Mendoza on his “Shoot for the Stars” tour. Expect two or three bands, a sound system built for volume, and a bar pouring beer and basic mixed drinks. Shows are announced on Instagram (@tijuanarockbar.mx) and Facebook, and picked up by Songkick and HazTJ.
Prices and entry
Cover depends on the show, and prices are not published consistently, so check the event post for the night you want. Touring acts are sold as tickets; local bills are usually paid at the door. Hours are not published online either; the bar runs on its event calendar, so assume show nights open in the evening and go late.
Getting there
Calle Sexta is the heart of downtown nightlife, six blocks south of the arch on Revolución: a twenty-minute walk from the San Ysidro pedestrian crossing or a short taxi ride. Ride-hail apps drop you on Revolución, and the bar is right at the corner. Paid parking is on the side streets. Foro Nebraska is on the same street, Dandy del Sur and the rest of the Sexta’s bars are within a block, and Zacazonapan is one street south on Séptima.
Good to know
- Bring ID; show nights in Tijuana are usually 18+ and the door may check.
- Sets start later than the posted time; arriving at the listed hour usually means seeing the opener.
- The Sexta gets crowded and loud after midnight on weekends. Keep your phone and wallet in front pockets.
- Pesos in small bills make cover and tips easier.
