Best for
Tasting Tijuana's best-known brewery on the strip

Insurgente Tap Room Centro is the Avenida Revolución outpost of Cervecería Insurgente, the brewery that did more than any other to make Tijuana a craft-beer city. It sits at Revolución 1010 in Zona Centro, by the corner of Calle Cuarta, in the thick of the avenue’s bars and taquerías. Insurgente started in 2010 as a homebrew project on a family patio and now has taprooms in Zona Río, Colonia Cacho and Guadalajara, so this is the easy version: no detour, twelve taps, a menu, and hours that run late on weekends. It is for first-time visitors who want to taste the city’s best-known beers without leaving the strip, and for locals meeting up before heading somewhere else.

The vibe

Insurgente’s taprooms share the brand’s signature style and service, as a 2021 guide put it, with staff who know the beers. The Centro room is a street-level bar with the avenue’s foot traffic going by and the patio of Mexica Cervecería next door. It is lively rather than loud, more a stop on a crawl than a destination for the whole night, though with a 2 a.m. close Wednesday to Saturday it can be both.

What to expect

Twelve beer options at a time, drawn from the core range and seasonal releases. The flagship is La Lupulosa, the hop-heavy IPA, with Tiniebla (a light Belgian-style wit) as the easy option and Dragula, an oatmeal stout, as the one with the trophy: it was the only Mexican beer to medal at the World Beer Cup 2025, and in 2026 the brewery picked up medals at the Copa Cervecera del Pacífico for Lupulosa, Dragula, Cucú and Santa’s Red. A flight is the way through the list. The food menu is bar food built to go with beer; reviews of it are mixed, so treat it as support rather than the reason to come.

Prices and entry

No cover; it is a taproom. The brewery does not publish prices online; a 2024 guide put pints at roughly 80 to 100 pesos. Hours published by the brewery: Monday 1:30 to 10 p.m., Tuesday noon to 10 p.m., Wednesday to Saturday noon to 2 a.m., Sunday noon to 10 p.m.

Getting there

Walk south on Revolución from the arch; the taproom is on the avenue at Calle Cuarta, about fifteen minutes from the San Ysidro pedestrian crossing. Taxis and ride-hail apps drop you at the door, and paid lots sit on the cross streets. Norte Brewing’s fifth-floor taproom is around the corner on Cuarta and Mamut is one street north on Tercera, so the three are a natural loop.

Good to know

  • To see the brewing, the original brewery at Juan Cordero 10021 in Zona Río has its own taproom with 24 beers, a mezzanine over the tanks and a full menu; it is closed Mondays.
  • The Cacho taproom inside Pasaje Cacho has a terrace and sits in a neighborhood known for its restaurants.
  • Weekend nights on this block are crowded; go early if you want a table.
