Dragón Rojo is Tijuana’s metal bar: a 250-capacity rock venue on Calle Primera in Zona Centro that has been the city’s address for heavy music for more than a decade and that celebrates its twelfth anniversary in October 2026. International death-metal, thrash and black-metal bands play here on the way between Los Angeles and the rest of Mexico, and on the nights in between it is a rock bar a few blocks from the border.
The vibe
Small, dark and loud. A visitor on Songkick describes it exactly: a small dark room with the stage at the front, the bar to one side and a graffiti-covered wall behind the band. The production is the band’s own and nothing more; the point is to be close. Promoters call it one of the most active spaces for heavy music in the city, and the regulars treat it as a clubhouse. Tijuana has had a metal scene for a long time, local musicians were already naming Dragón Rojo as a place that hosted strong shows back in 2012, and this is where that scene meets the touring circuit.
What to expect
The 2026 calendar is a metal fan’s itinerary. Enforcer in February, Leprosy with Anabanta in March, a Pink Floyd tribute in April, Cult of Fire in May, Atheist in September, then a packed autumn: Anna Fiori’s symphonic-metal tour on October 9, Mortiis on October 10, the thrash band Hirax headlining the twelfth-anniversary party on October 17, Horna on October 30, Dying Fetus on November 6, Dragonfly on November 20, D.R.I. on November 22 and Hellripper in January 2027. Doors are usually 7 or 8 p.m., local openers play first, and the room empties onto Calle Primera afterward. Expect a standing crowd, a pit for the faster bands and a bar that keeps serving through the headliner.
Prices and entry
Tickets are sold at the bar and through Arema, with some shows on Primera Fila. Prices track the act: local and regional bills in the MX$250–500 range, touring international bands from about MX$800 (Dying Fetus and D.R.I. were both listed from MX$800; Enforcer ran MX$800–1,000), and the anniversary party with Hirax was announced as free entry. Early-bird tiers are common and the door price is always the highest. Bring ID; it is a bar.
Getting there
Calle Primera 8158, Zona Centro. Calle Primera is the street of the Arch and Plaza Santa Cecilia at the north end of Avenida Revolución, which makes Dragón Rojo one of the closest venues to the border on foot, around fifteen minutes from the San Ysidro pedestrian crossing. One ticketing site lists a different address on Blvd. Agua Caliente for the venue; the promoters’ event pages and the bar’s own show listings use the Calle Primera address, so follow those.
Good to know
- Buy international shows in advance; 250 capacity means they can sell out.
- Earplugs are a good idea in a room this size.
- Plaza Santa Cecilia’s cantinas and the Revolución taco stands are steps away for before the show.
- Follow the bar’s social pages for lineup changes; metal tours shift dates more than most.
