Strong beer, a game on TV and the odd live show

La Cantina by Border Psycho, which everyone shortens to Border Psycho Cantina, is the downtown bar of one of Tijuana’s longest-running craft breweries. It is at Avenida Revolución 821, between Calle Segunda and Calle Tercera, on the first stretch of the avenue coming from the border. The family-owned brewery has been brewing since 2012, and the cantina is where you taste the range without visiting the production plant in Colonia Azcona, which does not offer tours or tastings. It suits beer drinkers who like strong, hop-forward styles, groups who want a game on and a few plates, and anyone after a loud-but-not-club night on the Revu.

The vibe

A big hall with a long bar and a wall of taps, more rock bar than tasting room. There are TVs for sports, a cocktail bar alongside the beer, and a stage that gets used: listings show rock and indie shows here in 2025 and a concert booked for late October 2026. Reviewers describe the crowd as young, local and loyal. It gets loud on weekend nights; afternoons are easier for a conversation and a flight.

What to expect

Border Psycho’s own beers plus guests from other Baja breweries. The house is known for high-alcohol beers: La Perversa, a double IPA, and Imperial Psycho Ale lead the list, with a cream ale, an English brown ale, a porter and rotating specials behind them. A 2021 guide counted 22 draft lines and recommended asking for a taster of everything; a 2024 guide counted ten-plus house taps plus guests. Cocktails are real cocktails (a 2023 reviewer mentions a Patrón margarita and an espresso martini), and the kitchen does pub food: pizzas, wings and sopes come up in reviews. Bottles are sold to go.

Prices and entry

Regular nights work like a bar; concerts are ticketed separately and announced on the brewery’s social media and on event listings. A 2024 guide put pints at around 80 to 100 pesos. Hours published by the brewery: Sunday to Tuesday 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Wednesday to Saturday 2 p.m. to midnight.

Getting there

Walk in from the San Ysidro pedestrian crossing to Revolución and keep going; the cantina is on the first blocks, roughly ten minutes on foot. Taxis and ride-hail apps know the address, and paid parking lots line the side streets. Mamut CervecerĆa (Calle Tercera) and Norte Brewing (Calle Cuarta) are each a couple of minutes’ walk away, which makes this corner of downtown the easiest craft-beer loop in the city.

Good to know

  • The brewery’s beach outpost, Playami by Border Psycho, is on Paseo Ensenada in Playas de Tijuana and runs its own events, from stand-up in English to wine tastings.
  • Earlier Border Psycho taprooms in Plaza Fiesta and Santa Fe are closed; the Revolución cantina and Playami are the two public locations.
  • The high-ABV house beers are stronger than they taste; pace yourself if you are crossing back on foot.
  • Bring ID for ticketed shows.
