What’s there
The Cine Bujazán opened on July 7, 1951, on Avenida Constitución in Zona Centro. Film distributor Miguel Bujazán had started building it two years earlier, and its Art Deco front and room for almost 2,500 people made it one of the city’s showpiece theaters, according to a TV Azteca Baja California history of the building (updated July 2026). It opened with Deseada, starring Dolores del Río and Jorge Mistral, and over the years also staged plays and recitals; Agustín Lara played the piano there.
A fire blamed on a short circuit gutted the building in 1993 and left little more than its walls standing. After years of abandonment, local rock, ska and punk bands started playing inside. Today the space operates as Espacio Observatorio Antiguo Cine Bujazán, a project of the Observatorio Centro de Estudios Cinematográficos to bring the old theater back as a place for art, culture and entertainment, with workshop rooms and a lobby, according to TJGram. TV Azteca describes a film school with a public café and a cine club that also hosts concerts.
What to expect
The calendar moves between touring artists, tribute shows and nostalgia nights. Coming up: Mac DeMarco on Friday, Nov. 20, with doors at 9 p.m. (Songkick, Tixel), and “Soda Infinito,” a Soda Stereo tribute, on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 9 p.m. (Tijuana Eventos). Earlier listings include León Larregui in October 2023, División Minúscula in May 2024 and a run of 2025 nights built around anime and film music, among them an Evangelion program with live piano and a symphonic Caballeros del Zodiaco show (Tijuana Eventos).
Because each night is booked separately, the crowd and the setup change with the act. Read the event page for the format, age rules and what the ticket includes before you buy.
Prices and entry
There is no single door price; every show is ticketed on its own, often through different sellers. The Mac DeMarco date is listed on See Tickets and Tixel, while Soda Infinito sells through EnTuTaquilla, with presale prices of MX$750 general and MX$1,270 for the fan zone, plus fees (Tijuana Eventos). The venue does not publish a general age policy, so check each listing and bring ID.
Getting there
The theater is at Av. Constitución 1337, between Calle Sexta and Calle Séptima, in Zona Centro (TJGram, Songkick). That puts it a block from Avenida Revolución and a short walk from the downtown bars in our nightlife guide. From the San Ysidro pedestrian crossing it is a short taxi or ride-hail trip, and a ride is the simplest way back after a late show.
Good to know
- Two symphonic dates from early November 2025 are marked as canceled on Tijuana Eventos, so confirm a show is still on before you plan a night around it.
- The November shows are listed for 9 p.m.; expect a late finish and check CBP wait times at bwt.cbp.gov before heading back north.
- The building itself is a piece of downtown history; come a little early to look around the lobby.
