Tijuana Restaurant Week runs Nov. 2–12: about 80 brands serve set menus at 199, 399 or 799 pesos

Tijuana’s restaurant chamber, Canirac, will hold Tijuana Restaurant Week from Monday, Nov. 2, through Thursday, Nov. 12, with fixed-price menus of two or three courses for 199, 399 or 799 pesos, the chamber’s Tijuana president, Rebeca Aguilar Santuario, announced on Monday, according to Zeta, Diario Tijuana and Opinia.

About 80 brands are taking part, with roughly 130 to 140 locations between them, according to Zeta, Diario Tijuana and Siempre en la Noticia; Opinia, which puts the count at more than 80, says they range from independent cafés to multi-branch chains. The participating restaurants are spread across the Río’s third stage, Zona Este, Playas de Tijuana and the Distrito Gastronómico, among other areas, according to Opinia and Siempre en la Noticia. Those two outlets say each menu comes with a drink, while Diario Tijuana says menus may include drinks, with or without alcohol. Dishes and the number of courses vary by restaurant, and not every price tier is offered at every location, Opinia noted.

Siempre en la Noticia named Lion Fish, Fuego Santo, La Diferencia, Caesar’s, La Carmelita, Oryx and Blue Luna among the participants. The participant list and the menus for each price tier are on the event’s website, tijuanarestaurantweek.mx, and on Instagram at @tijuanarestaurantweek.mx. Diario Tijuana says the campaign will also announce ten special events on its social media accounts, including pairing dinners and joint events with chefs and beverage brands.

The promotion comes at a hard time for the sector. Zeta reported that high rents, food costs, informal competition and red tape weigh on restaurants, and Aguilar Santuario said some have started to close; earlier this month, Canirac also reported losses from repeated power cuts (our story). Chef Ernesto Zamora, who spoke at the announcement, said a full table means more than one sale: it means “un gran movimiento en la ciudad,” a lot of activity for the city, according to Diario Tijuana.

Plan your meal

  • Check the directory before you go. Menus, prices and conditions vary by restaurant, and Opinia advises reading each offer first.
  • The promotion starts on Monday, Nov. 2, the day after Baja California turns its clocks back an hour (our story).
  • Crossing from San Diego for dinner? Check the border waits before you head back; our alert kit has the links.
