Tijuana in December 2026: concerts, Guadalupe Day, posadas, Christmas lights and New Year’s dates

December in Tijuana runs from a busy first weekend of concerts to Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe on Saturday, Dec. 12, nine nights of posadas and two long weekends, since Christmas and New Year’s Day both fall on a Friday this year. Much of the city’s holiday program hasn’t been announced yet, so here’s what’s confirmed as of Nov. 6, plus what happened last year so you know what to watch for. We’ll update this planner as dates are announced.

Key dates at a glance

  • Dec. 3–5: a run of concerts downtown and in Zona Río (below).
  • Dec. 2–6: Liga MX semifinals; the final is most likely Thursday, Dec. 10, and Sunday, Dec. 13.
  • Saturday, Dec. 12: Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe, also a bank holiday on the CNBV’s 2026 calendar, according to UnoTV.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 16, to Thursday, Dec. 24: the nine posadas.
  • Friday, Dec. 25: Christmas Day, also a bank holiday (UnoTV).
  • Thursday, Dec. 31, and Friday, Jan. 1: New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Concerts and nights out

The first weekend is the busiest so far. Kakkmaddafakka play Black Box on Thursday, Dec. 3. On Friday, Dec. 4, Nacho Vegas plays Black Box and Insite plays Marko Disko, according to Songkick, and Los Novillos de la Sierra play Las Pulgas at 8 p.m., according to Tijuana Eventos. On Saturday, Dec. 5, José y el Toro plays La Maquila (Songkick), and Black Box hosts tributes to The Smiths and The Cure at 7 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 11, Posadarks brings a Depeche Mode tribute and DJ sets to Black Box, doors 7 p.m., according to Tijuana Eventos. Door times and prices are on each event page.

Xolos and the Liga MX final

There’s no play-in this season: the quarterfinals are Nov. 25–29, the semifinals Dec. 2, 3, 5 and 6, and the two-leg final most likely Dec. 10 and 13, Fox Sports reported when the league released the calendar. If Toluca reach the final, it moves to Dec. 24 and 27 because of Toluca’s Intercontinental Cup commitments. Xolos were sixth heading into their Nov. 6 game at Necaxa and close the regular season at home against Atlante on Nov. 20 (our preview); any home playoff legs would be at Estadio Caliente.

Guadalupe Day, Saturday, Dec. 12

The 2026 program hasn’t been announced. Last year, Tijuana’s mañanitas concert for the Virgin was scheduled for 4 p.m. on Dec. 11 at the Catedral Metropolitana, with Adriel Favela closing a bill that included Quinto Traste, El Imparcial reported. We’ll add this year’s details when they’re out.

Christmas lights and the Villa Navideña

Last year the lighting of a Coca-Cola Christmas tree on Avenida Revolución opened a Villa Navideña that ran from Dec. 6 to Jan. 6 on the pedestrian stretch between Calle Tercera and Calle Quinta, with carols, costumed characters and musicians mostly on weekends, Zeta reported; this year’s date hasn’t been announced. Baja California’s government also scheduled free and low-cost holiday events in Tijuana last December, including Navidad en el Trompo with community orchestras (Dec. 7), a tree lighting at CEART Tijuana (Dec. 11) and a Nutcracker-themed afternoon at Parque Esperanto (Dec. 14), San Diego Red reported on Dec. 2.

The Nutcracker at CECUT

The Escuela de Danza Gloria Campobello and the Ballet del Noroeste de México have staged The Nutcracker together for nearly three decades; in 2024, when Zeta counted 27 years of the collaboration, the shows in CECUT’s Sala de Espectáculos sold out days ahead. CECUT’s November program doesn’t list Nutcracker dates yet, so watch its site and buy early.

Posadas

The nine posadas run from Dec. 16 to 24, re-enacting Mary and Joseph’s search for lodging with candlelit processions, sung litanies and piñatas, UnoTV explained, citing the Archdiocese of Mexico. Posada-themed nights show up on the club calendar too, like Posadarks at Black Box on Dec. 11.

Christmas, New Year’s and the border

Christmas Day and New Year’s Day both fall on Fridays, which makes long weekends on both sides of the border, so plan your crossing times. Last holiday season, the city and the Canaco chamber of commerce gave free medical passes, which speed up the trip back to San Diego, to U.S. residents who showed receipts from participating Tijuana businesses, from Dec. 12 to Jan. 6, San Diego Red reported; nothing has been announced for 2026. For timing tips, see our Thanksgiving planner and border-crossing guide.

Weather: plan around El Niño

Municipal civil protection expects El Niño’s most intense conditions from the second week of December (our update), and on Nov. 5 the city council declared an emergency to speed up prevention work (our story). Pack a rain jacket, check the forecast before you cross, and keep some flexibility in outdoor plans.

New dates go on the calendar as they’re announced, and more ideas are in our guides.
