Update: CECUT’s Fiesta de las Ánimas runs Oct. 29–Nov. 1, with about 55 exhibitors and a catrina runway

CECUT’s Día de Muertos season now has its hours. The Fiesta de las Ánimas runs from Thursday, Oct. 29, to Sunday, Nov. 1, from noon to 8 p.m. each day at the Centro Cultural Tijuana, and entry is free, organizers said at a presentation with Tijuana’s tourism and convention committee (Cotuco), Diario Tijuana reported Friday. The center’s traditional altar opens first, at 11 a.m. on Thursday. CECUT has dedicated this year’s altar to Margarita Maza Parada, whom El Imparcial described in September as a key woman in 19th-century Mexican history.

What’s on

M&G Eventos organizes the fair with CECUT, with about 55 exhibitors, local and out-of-town artisans and entrepreneurs selling seasonal goods, plus a food area, according to Diario Tijuana. Over the four days there will be folk ballet, norteño music, rock, jazz, soloists and storytellers, with groups including Quetzal, Nanahuatzin, Iztacaya and Wixpam. The food area lists antojitos, carnitas, carne asada tacos, huaraches, burgers and pizza.

On Friday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m., the Pasarela de Catrinas takes over CECUT’s outdoor steps by the IMAX dome. Students and graduates of the Universidad Interamericana para el Desarrollo (UNID) show catrina-inspired outfits in three categories by experience level. Tijuana Eventos lists it as the seventh edition, free and for all ages.
