Grand Hotel Tijuana is the pair of mirrored towers on Boulevard Agua Caliente that everyone in the city calls Las Torres, a fixture of the skyline since Alfonso Bustamante opened it in 1985. It is Tijuana’s big-hotel experience: about 400 rooms, a casino off the lobby, a heated pool and spa, several restaurants and bars, and views over the Club Campestre golf course and, from the upper floors, across to San Diego. It sits in the Agua Caliente corridor between Zona RÃo and the airport, so you will use taxis, but you get a hotel that is a destination in itself.
What’s there
The hotel lists 399 rooms and suites in the towers plus 57 Grand Care rooms with nursing support for guests recovering from medical procedures. Dining and drinking: EMMA Baja French, a seasonal tasting-menu restaurant built on Baja ingredients; the Tower Bar, a classic cocktail bar with live jazz on some nights; Plaza Café for the breakfast buffet, groups and all-day eating; and Café Bar 4500 in the lobby. There is a heated pool and jacuzzi, a gym, a spa, a business center, meeting rooms, parking and 24-hour room service, and a ground-floor casino with slot machines and a few tables.
What to expect
A large, busy, bilingual hotel that mixes business travelers, medical guests, wedding and quinceañera parties, Southern California families and the occasional touring act. Rooms on the high floors have the views, and guests mention the 30th floor by name. The towers date from the 1980s, so expect a property renovated in pieces rather than a new build; the breakfast buffet, room service and English-speaking staff draw the most consistent praise.
Prices and entry
Rates vary widely by tower, floor and season, and the hotel sells direct and through the major platforms. Parking is on site, and guests have reported a daily fee; confirm the current charge at check-in. The casino is for adults, so carry ID.
Getting there
Address: Blvd. Agua Caliente 4558, Colonia Aviación. The hotel puts the border at about 10 minutes and the airport at about 15 by car, and guests report 10 to 15 minutes to San Ysidro depending on traffic. Zona RÃo is a short taxi ride, Avenida Revolución a little farther, and Estadio Caliente is farther east along the same boulevard. The surrounding stretch of Agua Caliente has restaurants and cafés within walking distance.
Good to know
- Who it suits: travelers who want a full-service tower hotel with a casino and views, medical travelers using the Grand Care floor, and groups with an event to host.
- Who it does not: anyone who wants to walk to Revolución or Zona RÃo; this is a car-and-taxi location.
