Doria Café is a specialty coffee shop in Playas de Tijuana that occupies a seafront house linked to the late Juan Gabriel, “el Divo de Juárez.” It opened on Feb. 5, 2026, according to Remezcla, and in March and April it was covered by Excelsior, Directo al Paladar and Tus Buenas Noticias, mostly for the story of the building. In October, Publimetro included it, as Doria Coffee, in a roundup of 20 Tijuana coffee shops.
The house and the Juan Gabriel story
Excelsior reported that Juan Gabriel used the property for more than 30 years as a refuge where he rested and spent time with close friends, away from tours and the press, and Directo al Paladar describes it the same way. Not every account agrees: Remezcla notes that another outlet, Siempre en la Noticia, says he paid for the house and gave it to a friend, “Don Juanito,” who had helped him early in his career, and that he didn’t live there, though he is believed to have stayed there occasionally. Tus Buenas Noticias describes it as a private home he used when he visited Tijuana. There isn’t much memorabilia inside, though a placard says he once lived there, according to Remezcla.
The building is the draw either way. Tus Buenas Noticias attributes the original design to architect Carlos Torres, describes a mix of Arab-inspired, colonial and Californian touches, and says the renovation kept the original doors and old floors. Directo al Paladar describes white and blue Mediterranean tones and an exterior spiral staircase that has become one of the most photographed spots. Remezcla notes that a dome-shaped building nearby is often mistaken for the singer’s house.
The coffee
The café bills itself as “specialty coffee with a Mediterranean flair,” according to Remezcla. Directo al Paladar lists the classics (cappuccino, latte, flat white and americano), flavored drinks such as caramel, vanilla and seasonal options, and specials like a coconut foam and a lavender-and-banana drink. Tus Buenas Noticias calls the business Doria Coffee Roasters & Co. None of these sources mention food.
What to expect
It’s set up for lingering: Excelsior describes a relaxed spot where anyone can walk in and stay, and Tus Buenas Noticias says regulars have claimed their favorite tables while others come out of curiosity or nostalgia for the singer. The house faces the ocean, and Remezcla says the café is becoming known as dog-friendly. Atly’s listing describes a spacious espresso bar with room for groups and parking.
Prices
Directo al Paladar reported drink prices of about 60 to 85 pesos in March 2026. We haven’t seen a current menu with prices.
Getting there
Doria is at Paseo Playas de Tijuana 293, in Fraccionamiento Playas (Terrazas de Mendoza), per Atly and the map in Tus Buenas Noticias’ report. Playas de Tijuana is the city’s beach district on the Pacific; from the San Ysidro crossing or downtown, a taxi or ride-hail is the simplest way to get there. Another Playas stop on our directory is Playami by Border Psycho.
