Truckers plan a 10 a.m. caravan through Tijuana on Monday as the national strike begins: the route

Tijuana’s freight carriers are taking part in the open-ended national truckers’ strike that starts Monday, Oct. 26, with a caravan through the city. Up to 100 cargo trucks are expected at what four groups, Canacar, Fematrac, Hamotac and Indeco, describe as a peaceful demonstration, Zeta reported Sunday. Canacar’s delegate, Alfonso Millán, said the plan is to bring just a sample of about 80 to 100 trucks to keep the impact on traffic down, according to Grupo Animal.

The route

Trucks gather at 9:30 a.m. on the Carretera Internacional next to Tijuana’s import customs office and set off at 10, according to Grupo Animal; Zeta also gives a 10 a.m. start. From there, both outlets report, the caravan heads down through Colonia Libertad toward city hall in Zona Río, drives along Bulevar Paseo de los Héroes, takes the Vía Rápida toward the Central Camionera bus station and then climbs to Otay to return to the starting point. Neither outlet gives an end time.

The organizers say the march is not a road blockade, Zeta reported. Grupo Animal said they want to keep disruption to a minimum but warned of possible delays in deliveries. City hall, where the route is headed, is closed to the public on Monday for the municipal workers’ union anniversary (our story).

Why they’re striking

The groups are protesting insecurity, robberies and extortion on the roads, the state of the highways and rising costs, and they oppose the removal of fiscal incentives in the 2027 economic package now before the Senate, according to Zeta, which said the vote on the 2027 revenue laws is expected Tuesday. Canacar councilor Israel Delgado estimated that about 2,000 export operations in Tijuana could stop, according to Zeta and El Imparcial. Nationally, a map of the protests listed 40 mobilizations in 28 states on Monday, including one in Mexicali at 10 a.m., Grupo Animal reported, and El Financiero’s national roundup also lists the Carretera Internacional by the customs office and the Vía Rápida toward the bus station among Baja California’s protest points. Mexico’s Interior Ministry (Segob) has said it is open to dialogue, Zeta noted. Background is in our Sunday update.

If you’re driving or crossing Monday

  • Leave extra time from about 10 a.m. if your route uses Paseo de los Héroes, Colonia Libertad or the Vía Rápida toward the Central Camionera, and use another route if you can.
  • None of the reports we read mentions closures at the San Ysidro or Otay passenger crossings; the warnings are about city traffic and cargo deliveries.
  • Plans can change during the day, so check local news before you head out.
  • Waiting on a shipment? Ask your carrier whether it’s taking part.
