Free in Tijuana this November: Nortec on Revolución, a literature festival, a vinyl fair and a night of stars

Not every good night in Tijuana needs a ticket. These are the free plans we’ve been able to confirm for the rest of November, in date order, with what’s free, what isn’t and where each listing comes from. Details change, so check the organizer’s channels before you go, and see the calendar for everything else.

All month: the public libraries

The city’s libraries are running a free November program: Day of the Dead altars at every branch through Friday, Nov. 6 (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.), a book-repair course Nov. 9–13, a book swap on Nov. 12 for Mexico’s National Book Day and weekday storytime at the Benito Juárez García library. The branch-by-branch rundown is in our story.

Thursday, Nov. 5: Macbeth at CECUT

San Diego’s Old Globe brings its 80-minute Macbeth to the Centro Cultural Tijuana at 6 p.m., free of charge. Tijuana Eventos mentions limited capacity, so arrive early; details here.

Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7–8: a food festival on Avenida Revolución

Tijuana Eventos lists a free Festival Gastronómico on Avenida Revolución from 3 to 11 p.m. both days, organized by the city government, with more than 65 vendors, among them restaurants and breweries such as Wendlandt, La República de Hops and Border Psycho. Takón Machine plays on Saturday, and Nortec plays on Sunday in its Bostich + Fussible full-band format. Getting in costs nothing; the food and beer don’t, and beer is sold only to adults. Set times hadn’t been posted when we checked.

Tuesday to Saturday, Nov. 10–14: FeLiNo

The Festival de Literatura en el Norte, known as FeLiNo, holds its 18th edition at CECUT and other spaces around the city under the theme “Territorio y Raíz,” with readings, workshops, book presentations and a book sale, according to Tijuana Eventos, which lists the state’s culture department as organizer. Admission is free; the full program and times were still to be announced.

Saturday, Nov. 14: a science night at El Trompo

El Trompo hosts Noche de las Estrellas, an evening of talks, workshops, experiments and live music built around astronomy, from 6 to 9 p.m., free and for all ages, per Tijuana Eventos. Directions are on our El Trompo profile.

Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 14–15: the vinyl fair

The autumn Feria del Vinilo fills Pasaje Rodríguez, the arcade between Revolución and Constitución, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days, with free entry; each vendor sets its own prices, according to Tijuana Eventos. The passage’s cafés and bookstore are worth the browse too, as our Pasaje Rodríguez profile explains.

Wednesday, Nov. 18: new letters in Playas

The renovated “Aquí empieza la Patria” letters by the Playas de Tijuana lighthouse are due to be unveiled on Nov. 18, ten years after they first went up, according to Tijuana en Línea. No time had been announced. Once they’re unveiled, they’re a free photo stop any day.

Saturday, Nov. 21: a family afternoon and a comedy night

From 4 p.m., the Swap Meet Siglo XXI market on Boulevard Díaz Ordaz has a free family show with Paul Yester and Mimo Moy, hosted by Blanca La Potra, Tijuana Eventos says. At 9 p.m., República Malta, the beer garden in Zona Río, hosts Malta Stand Up Vol. 2, with five comedians and free entry; it’s for ages 18 and up (listing).

Before you go

  • Free means free entry. Food, drinks, records and books cost money, so bring cash and a card.
  • Check on the day. Most of these come from Tijuana Eventos, an events directory that notes details can change without notice.
  • Heading back to San Diego late? Check border wait times before you leave; our alert kit has the links.

For paid shows and club nights, see the calendar, and for where to eat and drink between plans, our guides.
