El Trompo is Tijuana’s interactive museum, built around hands-on science and technology exhibits for families, school groups and anyone curious about how things work. It sits in the eastern part of the city, in the Río Tijuana 3ra etapa area, the third stage of the Río Tijuana development, east of the main Zona Río district.
What’s there
The museum’s website lists six themed halls, called Integra, Explica, Experimenta, Genera, Educa and Valora, plus a Baja California hall, a play area (Ludoteca), Electrópolis, a screening room, a lookout (Mirador), the outdoor Audiorama, an esplanade, a cafeteria and a gift shop. Discover Baja describes six interactive zones, an auditorium and a large outdoor concert arena. In the last two years the museum has added immersive shows: a 360-degree immersive room opened in early 2025 and a Leonardo da Vinci interactive experience opened in late March 2026, El Imparcial reported in June, adding that the museum plans a new permanent immersive experience.
What to expect
As an interactive museum, it’s made for touching and trying rather than quiet looking, which makes it an easy pick with kids. In a regular month it receives about 14,000 to 15,000 visitors and expects more during summer vacation, director Rosario Ruiz Camacho told El Imparcial in June 2026. It also runs programs beyond the halls, including a summer camp for children ages 5 to 12. This October it is one of the stages of the state’s Festival de Octubre, with the show “Nuestro pueblo” on Friday, Oct. 16, according to Zeta.
Prices and entry
El Trompo is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on Mondays, according to its website. An individual ticket costs 98 pesos and covers the interactive halls and temporary exhibitions. A package that adds the “Inmersión Salvaje” immersive show costs 198 pesos, and the ticket page also lists a separate Van Gogh ticket at 180 pesos. Some tickets can be bought in presale online, and HSBC cardholders get a two-for-one offer, the site says.
Getting there
The address is Avenida de los Insurgentes s/n, Río Tijuana 3ra etapa. It’s a drive or ride-hail from Zona Centro and Zona Río rather than a walk, so plan the trip like any outing across town. The CEART Tijuana arts center, which hosts Festival de Octubre exhibitions and free Wednesday horror-film screenings this month, is in the same Río Tijuana 3ra etapa area, so the two pair well on a family day.
