The Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions. They beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, to take the series four games to one and win the first title in franchise history, MLB.com reported. William Contreras, who hit .381 in the series, was named World Series MVP, according to ESPN.
Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings before calf cramping ended his night, MLB.com reported, and rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt drove in Milwaukee’s first run with a single in the second inning, according to ESPN. Tampa Bay’s only run came in the ninth.
Aranda’s World Series
Tijuana’s Jonathan Aranda started Game 5 at first base, batting second, according to the lineup posted by Yahoo Sports. Tampa Bay Times columnist John Romano wrote that the Rays’ top hitters, Aranda among them, did little damage in the clincher. Aranda opened the series 3-for-3 in Game 1, doubled in Game 2 but was also charged with a costly error, and started Game 3 on the bench (our Game 3 story).
It still caps a big season for Tampa Bay, which won 98 games, its division and the American League pennant, MLB.com noted. With baseball done for the year, the next big game on Tijuana’s screens is Xolos at Monterrey on Saturday at 6 p.m. (preview).
