Read Eric's review

Lorenza is the dressed-up Mexican restaurant of Grupo Los Arcos, the restaurant group that also runs Cabanna, and it occupies the upper level of Plaza Paseo Chapultepec on Boulevard Agua Caliente. It opened in 2019 (a second Lorenza followed in Culiacán) and it has become the kind of place Tijuana residents pick for an anniversary, a business lunch or a long Sunday meal with the extended family. Visitors from San Diego will find prices that read as a bargain next to comparable fine dining north of the border.

The food

The kitchen describes itself as Mexican cooking that borrows from the whole country: comfort dishes, seafood, meats and a serious cocktail program. Eric’s review singles out the lobster bisque, a slow-cooked short rib, the signature Taco Lorenza on a chipotle tortilla with asadero cheese, a sirloin chicharrón and the tres leches cake, while diners on OpenTable tend to praise the food in general terms more than any single plate. The restaurant publishes its full menu as PDFs in Spanish and English on its website, which is the best way to plan if you have dietary limits.

What to expect

The room is elegant without being stiff: formal details, a calm palette and, on quieter afternoons, classical music in the background. There is a dining terrace plus a separate smoking terrace, a children’s play area that makes it unusually workable for families, and staff who handle birthday celebrations with some fanfare. Service is a strength in most accounts, though a couple of recent reviewers noted slow drink service on a busy night. Smart casual is the listed dress code.

Prices and reservations

OpenTable lists Lorenza in its MX$500-and-up per person band, and the restaurant takes reservations through OpenTable, by phone at +52 664 912 0149 or by WhatsApp at +52 664 491 4089. Hours as listed: Monday to Thursday noon to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday noon to 11 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., which makes Sunday the late-breakfast-and-lunch day.

Getting there

The address is Blvd. Agua Caliente 10387, locales A-201 and A-202, Plaza Paseo Chapultepec, Colonia Neidhart. The plaza sits on the main boulevard that runs east from Zona Río toward the Hipódromo and Estadio Caliente, so any taxi or Uber driver knows it, and it is a straightforward ride from the border or from the Río. The plaza has its own parking.

Good to know

Lorenza shares the plaza with its sibling Cabanna (same group, casual seafood) and with Bodega 8, so it is easy to move from a formal dinner to drinks without getting back in the car. Book ahead for Friday and Saturday dinner and for Sunday midday. Eric’s visit, with a rating, is in his Lorenza review.
