Ópera de Tijuana takes a free afternoon concert to Paseo del Parque on Sunday, Oct. 25

Ópera de Tijuana will bring an extension of its Ópera en la Calle festival to the Paseo del Parque plaza, in the third stage of the Río Tijuana development, on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m., with free admission, Diario Tijuana reported on Oct. 12. The Fundación Ópera de Tijuana A.C. is organizing the afternoon to bring music to families.

The program pairs music students who are just starting their training with more experienced members of the orchestra, who will take on the harder pieces, and it revisits part of the Spanish theme of this year’s festival, according to the paper. General director María Teresa Riqué said the project has kept going and growing for 26 years while building an audience for opera and concert music. Artistic coordinator Mario Montenegro and businesswoman Carolina Aubanel also spoke about the event, according to the paper.

• Paseo del Parque is in the same Río Tijuana third-stage area as Parque Morelos, where the Tijuana book fair runs Oct. 23 to Nov. 1, so the two make an easy Sunday together.
• The organizers haven’t published a running time or seating details, so arrive a little early.
• Also nearby: El Trompo and CEART Tijuana, home of the Desafío Dalí exhibition.
