The city government is directing 323,088,942 pesos in federal Ramo 33 funds to 86 public works across Tijuana’s nine delegaciones, Tijuana en LÃnea reported on October 9. The money goes through the city’s urban development department (SDTU), with priority for neighborhoods that have fallen furthest behind on basic infrastructure.
The list includes hydraulic-concrete paving, new drinking-water and sewer lines, storm drainage, street lighting, and stairways and walkways that link hillside neighborhoods to main avenues. Schools are on it too: a two-million-peso cafeteria at the Club Soroptimista municipal primary school, a rebuilt sports court at the Frontera Norte state primary school, and roofed patios, classrooms, restrooms and perimeter walls at other campuses.
Pools and sports centers
About 1.5 million pesos is set aside for sports facilities run by the city sports institute, IMDET: painting, waterproofing and new chlorination systems at the pools of Unidad Deportiva del Bosque, Unidad Deportiva Tijuana and Unidad Deportiva Reforma, plus new restrooms, tile, plumbing and lighting at CREA, Salvatierra, El RubÃ, Del Bosque, Unidad Deportiva Tijuana and Parque Recreativo Cerro de las Abejas.
What we still don’t know
The report did not break the 86 projects down by neighborhood or cost, and gave no start or finish dates. If you swim or train at one of these facilities, check with IMDET before you go in case of temporary closures.
