Tijuana has opened its first “Kiosko Digital,” a reporting point at Hotel Nelson in Zona Centro where residents, business owners and visitors can report administrative violations or irregular charges by public officials. Reports can include the date, a description and photos, and can be filed anonymously, according to coverage of the October 8 launch.
Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz opened the kiosk with síndica procuradora Teresita Balderas Beltrán and Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, national president of the business confederation Concanaco Servytur. It is part of the Pacto por la Prosperidad y la Justicia Económica, which the city signed with Concanaco in May. The pact rests on three ideas: safer ways to report extortion, credit for small businesses, and fewer hoops for opening and running a business.
What it means if you are visiting
Zona Centro and Avenida Revolución are where many visitors spend their first night in Tijuana. If someone asks you for an unofficial payment, or a fee does not look right, note the time, the place and any names or badge numbers, keep your receipts, and report it through official channels. In an emergency, dial 911.
Coverage of the launch did not mention more kiosk locations or dates. We will update this story if the city announces them.
