On February 7, 2025, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo expressed her satisfaction regarding the removal of Uriel Carmona Gándara from his position as Prosecutor General of Morelos. According to Sheinbaum, Carmona Gándara committed severe injustices, attempting to misclassify femicides as suicides. She congratulated the local Congress for stripping him of his role.

During a morning press conference at the National Palace, Sheinbaum recounted instances of missteps by Carmona Gándara. In particular, she recalled the case of Ariadna Fernanda López Díaz, whose death on November 2, 2022, was initially suggested by Carmona Gándara to be from asphyxiation, while Mexico City Prosecutor Ernestina Godoy Ramos identified it as a femicide. She criticized the former prosecutor for a prolonged period of insecurity and for misrepresenting various femicide cases. With Carmona Gándara’s removal, Edgar Antonio Maldonado Ceballos takes over the role.

Additionally, Morelos Governor Margarita González Saravia addressed Carmona Gándara’s tarnished image due to ongoing legal processes against him. She highlighted the necessity of a cooperative prosecutor’s office aligned with state governance for effective law enforcement.

In response to questions concerning whether she was protecting former Governor CuauhtĂ©moc Blanco Bravo, González Saravia denied any such actions and painted Carmona Gándara’s accusations as an act of desperation. She committed to fight for justice, especially for women, and to support the new prosecutor in addressing unresolved cases.

Ex-Governor Blanco Bravo, in turn, rejected allegations of attempted assault lodged by a family member and labeled claims against him as part of an extortion plot. He stated his intention not to resign from his position as a federal deputy amid calls for impeachment from the Morelos prosecutor’s office.

In other developments concerning the case, the Morelos Prosecutor’s Office officially requested the impeachment of Blanco Bravo. This request stems from accusations made by his half-sister, Nidia Fabiola “N”, who claims an assault attempt occurred in December 2023 at the state’s official residence. Blanco Bravo, a former soccer star and current federal deputy, is also accused of workplace harassment during his previous role as Governor. Despite these allegations, Blanco stands firm in his claim of innocence, awaiting further developments from Congress.
