**Over 423,000 Citizens Selected for Election Boards in Baja California**
On June 1, 2025, Baja California will see a significant electoral process with 423,965 citizens selected by the National Electoral Institute (INE) to participate in the installation of Electoral Boards at various polling stations. These boards are essential for the upcoming elections where judges, magistrates, and ministers will be chosen.
The selection process involved comprising 13% of the electorally eligible citizens from each electoral section. Baja California, which boasts 2,155 electoral sections, utilized the months of February and May to conduct the initial selection procedure. This method differs from previous elections, such as in 2023-2024, when March and April were utilized to appoint citizens for federal electoral duties.
Recently, Janett Guzmán Guerrero, the INE’s Electoral Training and Civic Education Coordinator in Baja California, revealed that the breakdown of selected individuals includes 210,945 men, 213,019 women, and one non-binary person. As part of the preparation, the staff from 9 District Boards will print out the notification letters from February 9 to March 31, during the initial round of training. This will assist electoral trainers in informing and training the chosen citizens for their roles.
A subsequent selection will focus on refining these numbers using a method based on the first letter of the surname, drawn at random earlier in February, which determined the letter “J” as the starting point. This letter will aid in narrowing down the selected individuals based on educational criteria to assign specific responsibilities within the Boards.
Guerrero encouraged the selected citizens to participate actively in this democratic process, underscoring the duty of being a Functional Board Member.
**Additional Election Preparations in Mexico**
In anticipation of the elections, various regions across Mexico are undergoing similar preparations. The country is gearing up for these essential judicial elections, with many states intensifying voter engagement efforts and training sessions. This marks a continuous effort to enhance the electoral process and ensure integrity and efficiency in voting procedures.
For example, in neighboring states, similar insaculation processes are being employed, with efforts to engage more youth and marginalized groups to ensure representation across various demographics. Additionally, the country is witnessing increased political activity and campaigning, with potential candidates utilizing social media platforms to reach broader audiences.
As the electoral date draws closer, institutions are doubling their efforts to ensure that all logistical elements—like the distribution of voting materials and setting up of polling stations—are in order, maintaining transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
