**Senate Sends Late Nomination to Electoral Institute**
The leadership of the Senate has sent the list of nominees for the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) after the legal deadline. The list includes the names of Lenia Batres Guadarrama, YasmÃn Esquivel Mossa, and Loretta Ortiz Ahlf—three acting judges seeking re-election. The judicial election is scheduled for June 1, 2025.
These judges, who are aligned with the “fourth transformation” movement, were not included in the initial list received by the National Electoral Institute (INE) on February 12, 2025. According to the reform of the General Law of Institutions and Electoral Procedures (LEGIPE), the final date to submit these lists was indeed February 12, 2025, as stated in the reformed Article 501 and its third transitory provision. This requirement aimed for the INE to efficiently organize the electoral process.
However, a report revealed that the names of the three judges were included in an updated list sent to the INE by February 15, 2025. This updated list contained 42 candidates of 33 women, as opposed to the original 39 candidates of 30 women.
