By mid-afternoon on Tuesday, Tijuana’s Fire Department was dealing with five active forest fires across neighborhoods like Liga Barcelona, Real del Mar, Ejido Lázaro Cárdenas, and Presidentes. Additionally, there were blazes reported in an abandoned house in the Tenochtitlán neighborhood and in a sawdust business in the El Refugio area. Jimenez advised residents against burning trash and urged a review of household electrical setups to prevent further incidents.
The relative humidity in the eastern part of the city dropped to as low as 5%, significantly increasing the risk of fire spread. By Tuesday evening, incidents included 33 vacant lot and trash fires, 27 forest fires, 23 fallen trees, 22 leaning poles, and 10 downed cables.
