The highly esteemed Mazatlán Literature Prize 2025 has been awarded to renowned Mexican writer Fabio Morábito for his captivating collection of stories, “Jardín de noche.” This accolade was announced by the Mazatlán Institute of Culture, Tourism, and Art, and will be celebrated with a series of events at the Mazatlán Carnival.

The prize was unanimously decided by the jury, which included literary figures such as Eve Gil, Braulio Peralta, and the president Juan José Rodríguez. “Jardín de noche,” published by Sexto Piso in 2024, showcases Morábito’s exceptional narrative skills and his ability to create diverse and compelling literary worlds, marking another triumph in his noted career as a writer, poet, and UNAM professor.

The award ceremony will take place during the Velada de las Artes on February 22 at the Ángela Peralta Theater, where Morábito will receive a monetary prize of 100,000 pesos. Before this celebratory event, he will present his book on February 21 at Casa Haas.

In addition to the award ceremony, the artistic evening will feature performances of Johan Strauss’s works by the Camerata Mazatlán and distinguished guest singers, under the direction of Maestro Enrique Patrón de Rueda. The Mazatlán Ballet Company will also bring their talents to the stage, directed by José Medina and choreographed by Zoila Fernández.

Upon winning, Morábito expressed his honor and shared insights into the creation of “Jardín de noche,” which was inspired by a phrase from a Haruki Murakami story.
