**IMDET Celebrates Delegational Finals of Popular Athletic Festivals**

The Municipal Institute of Sports in Tijuana has successfully concluded the first rounds of the Delegational Finals for the 2025 Popular Athletic Festivals. Various regions within the city hosted their respective events, encouraging young athletes to showcase their talents. Among the areas that held finals was La Presa Abelardo L. Rodríguez, where children aged 6 to 13, both boys and girls, competed at the Mariano Matamoros Sports Complex.

Other locations included the Otay Centenario area, the Nueva Tijuana Sports Complex, and La Presa Este, which hosted its event at the Queta Basilio Sports Unit, located near the Cerro de las Abejas. An elimination round also took place at the Gran Tenochtitlán Sports Unit in Playas de Tijuana, coinciding with a Wellness Day organized by the Ministry of Well-being. Additionally, La Mesa hosted their competitions at the Jesús Flores Valle Primary School.

Participants engaged in a variety of events such as sprints, long-distance races, throwing events, and long jump, all aiming for a spot in the Grand Municipal Final scheduled for February 23rd at the Tijuana Sports Unit.

**Expansion of Youth Athletics in Latin America**

Growing interest in youth athletics isn’t limited to Tijuana alone. Across Latin America, similar initiatives are taking root, promoting fitness among young people. For instance, in Mexico City, community centers have reported an uptick in youth sports enrollment, focusing not only on competitive sports but also on the social skills and self-esteem benefits such sports provide. In Colombia, government-backed programs aim to make athletics more accessible to underprivileged communities, creating new pathways for young talent to emerge on national and international stages.

These initiatives reflect a broader trend of urban centers leveraging sports to foster community involvement and support young athletes, ensuring that the next generation is both physically active and socially engaged.
