The FCE’s Librobús, a bookstore on wheels with books from 12 pesos, is due in Tijuana on Tuesday, Nov. 3

The Librobús “Leandro Valle”, a traveling bookstore run by the Fondo de Cultura Económica (FCE), the Mexican government’s publishing house, is touring Baja California and is due in Tijuana on Tuesday, Nov. 3, El Imparcial reported on Monday. The report didn’t say where in the city the bus will park or at what hours.

The bus carries about 10,000 copies of some 2,000 titles, with prices starting at 12 pesos, according to El Imparcial’s Mexicali edition. The stock includes novels, short stories, poetry, essays and children’s and young-adult books, and the Tijuana edition also lists history titles and graphic novels. Andrea Elizabeth Montoya Cárdenas, the FCE’s outreach manager, said the bus’s job is to bring affordable books to the communities it visits, El Imparcial reported.

The Baja California leg runs from Oct. 25 to Nov. 6 and covers 21 communities and about 1,500 kilometers, from Villa de Jesús María and Bahía de los Ángeles to Ensenada, Playas de Rosarito, Tijuana, Tecate, La Rumorosa, Mexicali and San Felipe, per Tijuana en la Noticia. It is part of “Letras Peninsulares, Letras al Norte,” a route of 31 stops in Baja California Sur, Baja California and Sonora that started Oct. 19 and ends Nov. 22, organized by the FCE with the culture departments of the three states. Along the route, the bus visits schools and other public spaces, and the participating communities get a cultural program with authors, storytellers, music and dance groups and school performances. Announced participants include poet Thiasol Sánchez, storyteller Jorge Salvaje and science-fiction writer Pepe Rojo, though the reports don’t say who will be at which stop.
