Fishing enthusiasts are eager to cast their lines in the upcoming “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament, taking place on Sunday, March 30th at Playa El Bebé in Rosarito. This event marks the kickoff of Baja California’s state fishing competition, attracting anglers from across the region and Southern California. Last year saw nearly 150 participants vying for prizes and honors.

The tournament is part of the official calendar for Baja California’s fishing activities, organized under the support of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda and facilitated by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association. This year’s event is hosted by the TJ Fishing Club, represented by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

This tournament is the first in a series of three beach fishing competitions that will determine qualifiers for the State Championship. Registration opens at 5:00 AM, with the fishing officially commencing at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in concludes by 1:00 PM, although those in line by closing time will still be accommodated.

Prizes will be awarded in several categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species. Participants and attendees can also look forward to raffle prizes and a chance to savor local fish-based dishes. Following this event, the next rounds of the state competition are scheduled for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Successful anglers will vie for the chance to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship on September 19-20 in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
