Rosarito is set to host an exciting event, as the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament kicks off this March 30th. Taking place at Rosarito’s magnificent Playa El Bebé, this event marks the first round of Baja California’s state fishing competition. Last year saw almost 150 avid anglers from across the state and Southern California, and organizers anticipate a strong turnout once again.

This tournament is one of three selective beach fishing events organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association. It aims to qualify participants for the prestigious State Championship. It receives backing from SEPESCA BC and support from Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s administration. The host for this event is the TJ Fishing Club, under the guidance of Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

The day will begin early with registration opening at 5:00 AM, followed by the official start of fishing activities at 7:00 AM. Enthusiasts will have until 1:00 PM for the weigh-in, with all participants in line by this deadline eligible to compete.

Prizes will be awarded across various categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and others. Additionally, attendees can look forward to raffles and delicious local fish dishes.

Interested participants are encouraged to learn more about registration details, costs, rules, and prizes by calling 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Further details can also be found on their website.

Ahead of the event, Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, provided financial support to cover some of the event expenses. Participants can register on the day or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking ahead, the second and third rounds of the state competition are slated for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada by Club Pura Vida and for July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Top fishermen from these events will earn the opportunity to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship, scheduled for September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
