Get Ready for the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito on March 30th

Rosarito’s picturesque “Playa El Bebé” is gearing up to host the first round of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. This eagerly anticipated event draws countless fishing enthusiasts from both local regions and Southern California, promising to be a thrilling kickoff for the season. Last year’s tournament attracted approximately 150 participants, and organizers are expecting an even larger turnout this year.

The competition is part of the official schedule coordinated by SEPESCA BC and enjoys the backing of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s administration. It is organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association with the TJ Fishing Club’s leadership, represented by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

This tournament marks the first of three beach fishing events that will determine qualifiers for the State Championship. Participants can register as early as 5:00 AM, with the official start at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in will close at 1:00 PM, ensuring all anglers in line will be counted.

Competitors are set to vie for prizes in several categories, including children’s, women’s, and various species like mojarra. Additionally, attendees will enjoy raffles and delicious local fish dishes prepared on-site.

In support of the event, Victor Hugo Méndez, who heads Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has announced financial assistance to help cover event costs. Anglers can choose to register on the day of the tournament or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking ahead, the following rounds are scheduled for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Top anglers will earn the chance to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship, taking place on September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
