Martín Álvaro Alva Steps Down as Director of Municipal Public Security in Ensenada

In a recent development, Martín Álvaro Alva Urias has resigned from his post as the Director of Municipal Public Security in Ensenada, just two months after his appointment. Sources close to the department stated the resignation was due to “personal reasons.”

Alva, who took office on October 1, was selected by the majority of the city’s councilors. During his brief tenure, he focused on addressing the security issues plaguing the city and aimed to dismantle the negative stigma surrounding the police force. His appointment came at a time when the department faced a crisis of public trust due to investigations into alleged criminal links involving some local police officers in the Guadalupe Valley.

This challenging situation had been publicly acknowledged, with former officers from the disbanded Federal Road Police highlighting the necessity to restore the police force’s image among citizens. Mayor Claudia Ágatón Muñíz, who was a strong supporter of his appointment, emphasized that Alva had been chosen from more than 60 candidates to lead the department.

As of now, it has not been disclosed who will succeed Álvaro Alva in this position. Municipal authorities are expected to provide further details regarding his successor at noon this coming Saturday.
