Upon arrival, officers discovered a man in jeans and a black jacket with a gunshot wound to the head, alongside a firearm with brown grips nearby. Paramedics confirmed the victim, identified as 25-year-old David de la Cruz Soria, showed no vital signs.
Witness accounts revealed that de la Cruz was manning the entrance when two men arrived in an unplated blue-green pickup truck. As security procedures were followed, one suspect drew a weapon and fired at de la Cruz, who managed to injure his assailant in self-defense.
One suspect fled towards Tecoripa Street, while the other retreated inside the bar, where he was restrained by staff. The suspect incurred a head injury during the altercation and was taken to Clinic 20 for treatment. The attacker, José Luis Cota, 50, from Sinaloa, is in police custody, with a second suspect later apprehended. Their vehicle was confirmed to be stolen.
David de la Cruz was employed with Sistema Integral de Protección y Defensa since August 2023, having no criminal history.
