### Tragedy in Tijuana: Worker Dies After Landslide Collapse
A tragic incident occurred in Tijuana on Friday, August 23, 2024, when a worker lost his life following the collapse of a slope of earth and rock during construction activities on Boulevard Fundadores.
According to Arturo Sánchez, the shift supervisor, the Tijuana Fire Department received an urgent call through the C5 emergency system around 1:00 p.m., reporting that an individual was trapped due to a landslide. Upon arriving at the scene near Rampa Sayula in the Fundadores neighborhood, the first response unit from the central station confirmed the situation.
The victim was identified as a man roughly between the ages of 50 and 55. After assessing the scene with the help of the Red Cross, authorities determined that the man was deceased.
“When working in trenches, these tasks are highly complicated and technical. They require a substantial amount of equipment and, importantly, the time needed to secure the area to safely retrieve the body. Currently, the fire department rescue team is handling the situation,” commented Sánchez.
Other workers from the same company were present at the site, though the specific nature of their work remains unclear.
With the excavation site reaching depths of up to 4 meters, about 20 firefighters worked from 1:20 p.m. to liberate the body, finally completing the task by approximately 3:40 p.m.
“Unfortunately, incidents like these are becoming more common during excavation activities. It’s crucial to take extra precautions, particularly given the city’s topographic characteristics,” Sánchez concluded.
