**Interest Grows for Elevated Roadway Project Morelos-Otay in Tijuana**
Three construction companies have expressed interest in participating in a significant infrastructure project in Tijuana aimed at creating an elevated roadway from Nodo Morelos to Otay. Arturo Espinoza Jaramillo, the Secretary of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territorial Reorganization, discussed the development during a recent press briefing.
While specific company names have not been disclosed, the state government is seeking bids from firms with both financial and technical expertise by early January. The project is estimated to require an investment of approximately 15 billion pesos.
Espinoza emphasized the necessity of forming consortia to ensure a blend of financial backing and technical capability. “We are not looking for just a financial entity due to potential technical issues, nor just a constructor because of financial challenges; we’re encouraging the formation of consortia to cover both aspects,” he explained.
The project’s timeline remains uncertain at this stage. Espinoza suggested that possibly only a segment of the elevated road would be operational by the end of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s term, hinting at the complexity of the work, especially around the 5y10 area where infrastructure adjustments may cause time delays.
The initiative will utilize the Rosas Magallón route, minimizing impact on private properties, except for some necessary adjustments at the 5y10 zone to install supports for the second level.
Last December 9th, a necessity declaration was issued by the state government, setting in motion the concession process for a private company to develop and manage the toll-based elevated road, spanning 12.06 kilometers from Nodo Morelos to the Otay Industrial Boulevard. The new route will consist of three lanes in each direction, designed for speeds up to 80 kilometers per hour, to reduce travel time from 40 minutes to approximately 14 minutes.
