### Tijuana’s Coca-Cola Christmas Tree Lighting Kicks Off Holiday Celebrations
The city of Tijuana welcomed the festive season on the evening of November 23, 2024, with the lighting of the Coca-Cola Christmas tree. This event, taking place on Avenida Revolución, marks the beginning of a series of holiday activities organized by the Tijuana City Council.
Rodolfo Márquez, the general director of Coca-Cola’s operations, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration between public and private sectors. “At Coca-Cola, we envision a golden triangle where society, government, and private enterprise come together to create better places. We are thrilled to be a part of this, marking the start of this holiday block,” he stated before the tree lighting.
Tijuana’s mayor, Ismael Burgueño, emphasized that these initiatives are part of efforts to pedestrianize the area, creating a recreational and family-friendly space. “We are thrilled by the public’s response, indicating a longstanding desire for spaces like these. As we expand this project, our goal is to eventually reach 10th Street, but the development will happen gradually,” he explained.
Upcoming plans for the festive village include an ice-skating rink, adding to the holiday cheer. When asked about similar projects in other needed areas of the city, Burgueño shared that there’s an executive project in the works for the Eastern Zone, although details and budget are yet to be finalized. “We’re evaluating the possibility of this Eastern Zone project, which would greatly enhance the area with this infrastructure,” he added.
To ensure safety in the downtown area, plans include installing cameras and lighting, although specific numbers were not disclosed. “We are committed to lighting up all of downtown. We guarantee a secure environment for everyone,” affirmed the mayor.
Families gathered between Fourth and Fifth Streets on Avenida Revolución to witness the tree lighting and receive gifts from Coca-Cola, including hats and collectible figures from the Christmas village. Notable attendees included Jose Luis Portillo, Central Zone delegate, and Eduardo Espinoza, marketing manager for Coca-Cola Foundation.

### Additional Developments in Tijuana: Expansion of Holiday Events
In other news, Tijuana’s holiday spirit isn’t just limited to the downtown area’s festivities. Plans are underway to extend holiday events across various city locations, emphasizing community engagement and cultural celebration.
The city aims to introduce more public gatherings, similar to the Christmas tree lighting, in different neighborhoods, particularly focusing on areas that have historically lacked such communal events. These initiatives not only aim to spread holiday cheer but also to foster a sense of unity and solidarity among Tijuana’s diverse communities.
Efforts are being made to enhance public spaces citywide with decorations and events that are accessible to all, promoting an inclusive festive atmosphere. The Tijuana City Council is working in collaboration with various local organizations to bring these events to life, fostering a shared cultural experience and community involvement.
This year’s holiday season in Tijuana promises to be one of warmth, joy, and togetherness, as the city lights up not only with festive decorations but also with the spirit of community and celebration.
