On December 10th, the vibrant city of Tijuana celebrated International Clown Day with a lively parade that filled the streets with laughter and joy. Around 60 clowns gathered at the iconic Torre del bulevar Agua Caliente early Tuesday morning. They embarked on a colorful march toward the city’s Zona Centro, culminating at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Tijuana. Along the way, they entertained locals with balloons, whistles, and colorful flags, pausing to take pictures with passersby.

Despite the strong Santa Ana winds, clowns like Jijimi, who has been in the business for 29 years, continued the tradition with enthusiasm. “We had over 120 clowns planned, but many were scared off by the winds. Still, more than 60 of us braved the conditions,” he shared. Jijimi began his career in 1994 with a famous Mexican circus before joining the local clown community in Tijuana.

Yayito and Toto, two other clowns in the community, have worked together in events and children’s parties for years, bringing laughter and smiles to audiences. “The first time I saw a clown, I was scared,” shared one participant. “But now, I love it, especially when children give you a sincere hug.”
