## New Initiative to Support Employment for People with Disabilities in Tijuana
The Integral Family Development System in Tijuana (SDIF) is set to forge a significant partnership with the Business Coordinating Council (CCE). This collaboration aims to establish a job placement program specifically designed to increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities in the municipality.
Paola Leyva, the director of SDIF, announced that discussions are planned for this week to initiate this inclusive employment project. The primary objective is to ensure job security and professional opportunities for all individuals with disabilities in the community. The initiative acknowledges the local demand for various roles such as “cartas empacadores” frequently sought by local markets, which SDIF intends to make accessible.
Currently, the city is home to approximately 68,000 individuals living with disabilities. Yet, only 7,500 of these individuals possess permanent Disability Credentials and Parking Permits. The rest are categorized under temporary disabilities. Leyva emphasized, “We aim to ensure that no person with a disability is left without support or job opportunities.”
The current process requires individuals to present a medical certification detailing their disability, alongside proof of residence, CURP, and identification to the municipal DIF office for receiving support and credentials. Notably, individuals aged 55 or above may receive assistance if a certified medical professional confirms the need.

For instance, the European Union has been actively working on enhancing disability rights through comprehensive policies that aim to provide equal opportunities in education and employment. In the United States, employers are encouraged to implement inclusive practices through various government incentives, while Australia has introduced subsidies for businesses employing people with disabilities.
These efforts have demonstrated positive outcomes, showcasing increased job satisfaction and retention rates among employees with disabilities, leading to a more diverse and inclusive work environment.
The global focus on disability employment aligns with the work being done in Tijuana with the SDIF and CCE partnership, emphasizing that inclusion not only benefits the individuals but enriches communities and economies worldwide.
