### Revamping Businesses on Avenida Revolución for Foreign Tourists – TJGringo.com
Businesses located along Avenida Revolución in Tijuana, where streets have been converted to pedestrian-only zones, are encouraged to shift their focus toward attracting foreign tourists. Karim Chalita Rodríguez, president of the Tijuana Tourism and Conventions Committee (Cotuco), highlighted this need as part of an effort to adapt to new visitor demands.
Since October 10th, the local government initiated the closure of Avenida Revolución to vehicular traffic, running from Fourth Street to Seventh Street. In its place, free carousels were set up, and a welcoming arch was inaugurated to enhance the historic center’s appeal.
Chalita Rodríguez pointed out that these changes have led to an increased number of visitors in the area, especially during the afternoon and evening hours, primarily local tourists—a significant contrast to conditions in the past. He noted that businesses specializing in beverages, tattoos, and street food, known as “garnachas,” have been particularly successful.
However, stores with a purely tourist-centric focus, like those selling local crafts, have not benefited from the changes as much. Chalita Rodríguez suggested that these businesses might consider adjusting their offerings to better meet the interests of the new wave of visitors.
The municipal government is also planning a broader project to invigorate the entire downtown area, extending beyond the main city block to parts of the Zona Río and even the racecourse.
During recent Halloween festivities on Avenida Revolución, the number of attendees doubled, with approximately 10,000 people present. This significant turnout also led to notable traffic diversions, underlining the vibrancy brought to the area by these initiatives.
