**Maxifamily Store in Mexicali Closed by State Authorities**
In Mexicali, the Maxifamily store has been shut down by the State Civil Protection Coordination, marking the third closure of this kind in Baja California. State and federal authorities initially aimed to conduct a large-scale seizure similar to the recent operation in Ensenada, where around 3 million illegal products were confiscated. However, upon arrival, officials found that the store was already closed.
The decision to close the store was prompted by a diesel generator outside the premises that was leaking fuel. As a result, the state’s Civil Protection team mandated the closure, giving the store owners two business days to address the situation with authorities before facing continued closure.
A spokesperson for Civil Protection explained that the aim was to ensure the store had the requisite state civil protection program in place. Due to the closure, this couldn’t be verified, and a notice was prepared. During further inspection, they discovered the neglected generator with a fuel leak.
Gustavo Santos Hernández, the director of the Tax Administration Service (SAT) in Baja California, stated that the company will be notified to complete a product inspection. Failing compliance, legal measures could lead to product seizure. Carlos Alfonso Candelaria of the Economic Ministry mentioned ongoing investigations to identify other stores that might be selling unregulated products, hinting at further potential operations in Baja California’s capital.
**Additional News on Retail Store Regulations**
Incidents like the closure of the Maxifamily store showcase the ongoing efforts of local authorities to regulate and control stores potentially distributing illegal or unsafe products. Similar enforcement actions have been observed in various parts of Mexico, wherein authorities intensify their crackdown on businesses flouting regulations. These actions reflect a broader push to maintain consumer safety and uphold legal trade practices across the region. Officials encourage businesses to ensure compliance with safety and product regulations to avoid such closures and ensure the welfare of the community.
