**SDIF’s Shelter for Women Victims of Violence Set to Reopen This Thursday**

The Shelter for Women Victims of Violence, operated by the Family Integral Development System (SDIF) in Tijuana, is set to reopen its doors this Thursday after a six-month closure for renovations. Paola Leyva, director of Tijuana’s municipal DIF, announced the reopening, emphasizing that the facility can accommodate up to eighty women, often accompanied by children and adolescents.

“We are reopening the shelter for victims of violence, which has been under renovation, and the good news for Tijuana is that we’re soon opening it for long-term stays for women,” Leyva explained.

Women seeking support can call 075 for information or visit the DIF municipal offices located on Avenida Insurgentes near Parque Morelos. Leyva stressed that for security reasons, the location is confidential, but help can be accessed through the helpline.

Additionally, Leyva shared that her administration has received nearly 250 calls to the helpline, predominantly for psychological therapy in crisis situations. “These are psychological attentions where people find themselves in crisis, and others just want to feel heard,” she said.

The goal of the shelter is to empower women, encouraging them to stay for more than three months to learn new skills and integrate into the workforce, thereby reducing economic dependence on their perpetrators. “The idea of this shelter is for them to receive care to enable independence from their aggressors,” added Leyva.

**Efforts to Aid Women Victims of Violence Continue in Baja California**

In Baja California, initiatives to support women victims of violence are expanding as the need for such services grows. According to recent reports, the region has been focusing on increasing resources and facilities dedicated to aiding women in distress. This includes activities such as workshops, legal advice, and psychological support services tailored to helping victims regain control over their lives.

In an effort to further support these initiatives, the local government has ramped up its budget for women’s defense programs, aiming to recruit additional legal experts to provide specialized assistance. The collective effort seeks to address the urgent call for support and protection for women experiencing violence, advocating for their safety and empowerment across the state.

While challenges remain, community organizations and government entities continue striving to provide a safer, more supportive environment for all women. By fostering skill development and offering comprehensive support, the hope is to create lasting change and prevent future instances of violence.
