“We are committed to making the desalination plant in Baja California a reality,” stated Sheinbaum.

Rosarito’s Mayor, RocĂ­o Adame, quickly embraced the announcement, expressing enthusiasm on social media. “The desalination plant is happening! This is crucial for enhancing the water supply in South Rosarito and safeguarding our beaches,” she remarked.

The plant, categorized as a Greenfield project, will boast a production capacity of 2,200 liters per second, ensuring a stable water supply for the area. The venture is backed by Banobras and Fonadin, with a recent update on plans conducted on March 12, 2025, according to Proyectos México.

Mayor Adame’s administration is working towards achieving the National Tourism Quality Certification, a mark that assures high standards and environmental responsibility across Mexican destinations.
