### Rosarito’s Desalination Plant to Transform Water Supply and Boost Tourism
Rosarito is on the cusp of a major transformation with the confirmation of a new desalination plant. Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced the project would move forward during a recent press conference, as part of the National Water Plan. The ambitious project is set to receive an investment of 12 billion pesos, equivalent to approximately $648 million USD.
President Sheinbaum confirmed, “Yes, we are going to build it… We will make the desalination plant in Baja California a reality.”
Rosarito’s Mayor Rocío Adame enthusiastically welcomed the announcement, stating on social media, “The desalination plant is happening! This project will be key to improving water supply in South Rosarito and protecting our beaches.”

Classified as a Greenfield project, the plant will have a production capacity of 2,200 liters per second, ensuring a sustainable water supply for the region. The initiative is backed by Banobras and Fonadin, with the latest review conducted by Proyectos México on March 12, 2025.

Mayor Adame’s administration is working towards achieving the National Tourism Quality Certification, a recognition for destinations in Mexico that uphold high standards and environmental responsibility.
Paul Corona Rodríguez, president of COTUCO Rosarito, explained, “This certification is a comprehensive recognition of quality and sustainability in tourism.”
