Rosarito, a popular destination for spring breakers, is experiencing a notable decline in American visitors this season, causing concern among local businesses. Gustavo Torres RamÃrez, president of the Consejo Coordinador Empresarial (CCE) and hotelier, reported a 15% drop in hotel occupancy compared to the previous year. Even with coordinated efforts like discounts and joint promotions with restaurants and beach clubs, the expected surge of American tourists has not materialized.
Torres RamÃrez attributes this decline to economic uncertainties in the United States, suggesting that fears of an impending recession have led potential tourists to be more cautious with their spending, choosing to prioritize financial security over vacations. This trend is evident on booking platforms such as Booking.com and Expedia, where there is a decrease in activity as travelers either delay or cancel their plans.
Despite these setbacks, Rosarito is still bustling with lively Spring Break events aimed at attracting both domestic and international crowds. Papas&Beer, a well-known beachfront venue, is hosting four consecutive weekends filled with live performances from artists including Diplo, Sexyy Red, Wiz Khalifa, and Lil Jon. These events boast pool parties, open bars, and beachfront concerts designed to create unforgettable experiences for those who attend.
Additionally, the Spring Break Bike Fest 2025 will take place from March 21st to 23rd at Coco Beach. The festival promises an adrenaline-filled weekend featuring motorcycle stunts, live performances from artists like G. Perico and WC “The Shadiest One,” and access to multiple clubs with open bars.
Looking forward, the local tourism industry is hopeful that the upcoming Tianguis TurÃstico in April will provide a much-needed boost. However, Torres RamÃrez cautions that summer occupancy rates may continue to lag behind 2024 levels if longstanding issues such as police corruption, which negatively impacts Rosarito’s reputation, are not addressed.
