## Four State Police Officers Temporarily Removed in Rosarito Amid Complaints
In a significant move, four officers from the State Police have been temporarily removed from their roles in Rosarito. This decision follows the submission of two formal complaints since the State Police assumed responsibility for local security on March 7th.
Laureano Carrillo RodrÃguez, Baja California’s Secretary of Citizen Security, confirmed the receipt of these complaints. One of the allegations has been directed to the State Attorney General’s Office, while the other has found its way to the Internal Control Body of the security department.
“Complaints about the State Police have reached us, and as of now, two formal cases have been registered. An investigation is currently underway,” stated Carrillo RodrÃguez. He further addressed that there are also circulating allegations on social media which are being explored, though no formal reports have emerged beyond those two.
### Officers Reassigned, No Conclusive Evidence Yet
Concerning the involved officers, Carrillo RodrÃguez clarified that they have been reassigned for precautionary reasons while the Internal Control Body leads the investigation. “Although there is currently no evidence directly linking them to the accusations, they have been relocated to ensure safety while the investigations proceed,” he explained.
Since March 7th, the State Police began managing security operations in Rosarito, effectively replacing 264 municipal officers. These municipal officers are presently undergoing rigorous vetting, including psychological, medical, and toxicology tests, in addition to social background checks and polygraph exams. Even their firearms are undergoing inspections for serial numbers and codes.
Despite the unexpected nature of these developments, accountability is often a stepping stone towards justice. This can hopefully signify the start of a broader reform within Rosarito’s security forces.
