Rosarito is set to host an exciting event for fishing enthusiasts as the inaugural round of the Baja California state fishing competition kicks off at Playa El Bebé on Sunday, March 30th. Known to attract numerous anglers from both the state and Southern California, last year’s tournament drew in nearly 150 participants.

Sanctioned by SEPESCA BC with support from Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s administration, the event is organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association, with the TJ Fishing Club, led by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno, serving as hosts this year.

The “El Bebé” tournament is one of three selective beach fishing competitions that qualify anglers for the State Championship. The schedule for the day starts at 5:00 AM with registration, and the official fishing begins at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in concludes at 1:00 PM, accommodating those already in line.

Prizes will be awarded in various categories, including children’s, women’s, and for catches like mojarra and other species. Participants can also enjoy raffles and local fish dishes.

Interested participants should reach out for registration details, rules, and costs by calling 664-493-6014 or 664-339-9173 or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Additional event information is available on the club’s website.

Financial backing from Victor Hugo Méndez, the head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has been provided to ensure the event’s success. For those who prefer, registrations can also be made at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking ahead, subsequent rounds of the state competition are scheduled for April 27th at Sunset Beach, Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón, San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. The top competitors from these events will earn the opportunity to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship scheduled for September 19-20 in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
