Rosarito is poised for a significant transformation with the confirmation of its new desalination plant, a move set to revolutionize water supply and bolster tourism in the area. “We are committed to making the desalination plant in Baja California a reality,” President Sheinbaum announced during a press briefing. The announcement was met with enthusiasm by Rosarito’s Mayor, Rocío Adame, who expressed her excitement on social media, highlighting the plant’s potential to enhance water stability in South Rosarito while safeguarding the region’s beaches.

The desalination facility is set to produce an impressive 2,200 liters of water per second, ensuring a consistent and sustainable water supply for the region. This initiative, a Greenfield project, has received backing from organizations like Banobras and Fonadin, as reported by Proyectos México, with a review taking place on March 12, 2025.
Beyond just improving water infrastructure, Rosarito is gaining traction in tourism and sustainability. The local government under Mayor Adame is actively working towards obtaining the National Tourism Quality Certification, a prestigious acknowledgment that promises high standards and a focus on environmental responsibility for destinations across Mexico.
