Get Ready for the Exciting “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito This March 30th
Rosarito’s picturesque “Playa El Bebé” is gearing up to host the inaugural round of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. Enthusiasts from across the region and Southern California are expected to turn up in strong numbers, promising an exciting event. Last year, nearly 150 anglers brought their best to the competition, underscoring its popularity in the fishing community.
The tournament is officially recognized by the Baja California Ministry of Fisheries (SEPESCA BC) and receives full backing from Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s administration. The Baja California Fishing Clubs Association organizes the event, with the TJ Fishing Club leading the charge, represented by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.
This tournament marks the first of three qualifying events paving the way to the State Championship. Early risers can begin registration at 5:00 AM, with lines cast by 7:00 AM and weigh-ins wrapping up at 1:00 PM. Participants standing in line by the cut-off will still have their catches counted.
Competitors will vie for honors in multiple categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species, and can look forward to raffles and delectable local fish dishes. For those eager to compete, registration details, rules, and prize information are available by contacting 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Additional information can also be found on the TJ Fishing Club’s website.
In a commendable gesture of support, Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has provided financial backing to assist the organizers with event expenses.
Anglers can register on the day or pre-sign up at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or the Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria. Looking ahead, the next rounds are set for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín. These events will see participants compete to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship on September 19-20 in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
